This book is more than just a book —it’s meant to be played!
Written by Adrián Suárez (@nuevebits), it takes readers on an interactive journey from nostalgia to the present, facing iconic JRPG characters along the way. The book explores whether the JRPG is a genre exclusive to Japanese-made games or one with a universal identity of its own.
I was in charge of all the interior artwork, adapting the visuals into battle-style portraits to match the game-like structure of the book. In total, I created around 25 illustrations, including several icons and a final horizontal piece.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this project was how dynamic and collaborative it turned out to be. At one point, a small typo in the draft text led me to draw something completely unexpected — and we liked it so much, we decided to keep it. That kind of happy accidents gave the whole process a sense of spontaneity that I really loved.
